    The Project:

    From Idea to Impact: Why Do Good Plans Take So Long?

    Every day, public organizations invest time, money, and energy in improving society. They renovate hospitals, build sustainable neighborhoods, modernize education, improve public services and develop new policies. Yet many of these initiatives take far longer than expected, or never fully deliver on their promise. Why is that?

    ORGfit is a leading consultancy firm in Southeast Netherlands and the market leader in Limburg for complex public sector projects. They work with municipalities, hospitals, universities, housing corporations and other public organizations across the region. In almost every organization we encounter the same challenge: turning good ideas into successful implementation. Projects often face delays, changing priorities, lengthy decision-making processes, capacity constraints, or unclear ownership. But these are only the symptoms, and we want to understand the underlying causes.

    Your challenge
    Help uncover why projects in public organizations lose momentum between the initial idea and final delivery.

    You will explore questions such as:
    • Where do delays occur most often?
    • What organizational factors slow projects down?
    • Which barriers can organizations influence themselves?
    • What distinguishes organizations that deliver successfully from those that struggle?

    To answer these questions, you will combine academic insights with real-world research. You will interview professionals, analyze practical cases, and work directly on a challenge faced by organizations every day.

    What makes this project interesting? This is not a desk research project. You will have the opportunity to engage with professionals from municipalities, healthcare organizations, universities, and other public institutions. Together, we will translate your findings into practical solutions that organizations can actually use.

    Depending on your interests and findings, this could include:
    • a practical "speed scan" that identifies where projects lose time;
    • a set of evidence-based recommendations for managers and project teams;
    • concrete "accelerators" that help organizations move from plans to results more effectively.

    What we offer
    • Access to a unique network of public organizations;
    • Guidance and feedback from experienced consultants;
    • The opportunity to conduct research on a highly relevant societal challenge;
    • Direct interaction with practitioners and decision-makers;
    • The possibility to see your ideas translated into practice.

    Most importantly, your work will not end with a final report. The insights you generate can contribute directly to a new approach that helps public organizations deliver projects faster and create greater impact for citizens, patients,
    students and communities.

    Would you like to work on a real-world challenge with tangible societal impact? Then help us discover how public organizations can turn ideas into results faster.
