H+ Workshop: The Culture Gap; Mastering Collaboration Across Cultures

You may think you're a good team player. But what happens when the people you're working with have completely different ideas about how to communicate, give feedback, make decisions, build trust or deal with disagreement?
In an increasingly diverse world, working effectively with people from different cultural backgrounds is a skill you'll need long after you leave university. And cultural differences don't always look like cultural differences. Why does one teammate seem very direct while another avoids giving critical feedback? Why does someone want to reach a decision quickly while someone else wants to hear everyone's opinion first? And how might your own communication style be interpreted by someone who doesn't share your assumptions?
This interactive workshop explores how cultural backgrounds, habits and assumptions can influence communication, trust, decision-making, feedback and teamwork. You'll reflect on your own preferences, learn to recognise when others may approach situations differently, and practise practical strategies for bridging those differences effectively and respectfully.
These are skills that matter not only in your current Honours+ team, but throughout your future career. The people you work with won't always communicate, think or collaborate the way you do. Learning how to navigate those differences can make the difference between simply working alongside people and actually working well together.
What will you take away?
- Insight into common cultural differences in communication, teamwork and leadership
- Greater awareness of your own tendencies and how they may affect others
- A better understanding of why people may approach the same situation differently
- Practical techniques for navigating misunderstandings and bridging cultural differences
- Strategies for working effectively and respectfully with people from different cultural backgrounds
You don't need to think alike to work well together. You need to understand what happens when different ways of thinking meet.
Please note that this workshop is one of the electives PREMIUM offers. Attend a minimum of 3 of the elective workshops.
