  • For many supervisors, guiding students in interdisciplinary research can feel daunting, especially when the topic itself reaches beyond your own disciplinary expertise. Yet your role is crucial in helping students navigate this unfamiliar territory and develop the skills to integrate perspectives, build common ground, and formulate meaningful interdisciplinary research questions.

    This interactive workshop is designed to equip you with practical strategies and confidence to support students embarking on interdisciplinary research for the first time. Through case studies and real examples, we will explore how to guide students in negotiating diverse perspectives, keeping their research process rigorous and coherent, and maintaining ownership of their work even when you are not the subject-matter expert. You will leave with a clearer sense of how to supervise the process rather than the content, ensuring your students thrive in an interdisciplinary learning environment.

    • Understand the key challenges students face when doing interdisciplinary research for the first time;
    • Learn how to guide the research process even when the content is outside your expertise;
    • Develop strategies to help students integrate perspectives and build a common language;
    • Gain confidence in facilitating interdisciplinary collaboration and reflection;
    • Explore real-life case studies to reflect on your supervisory approach and impact;
